June 30th

1930 - Father Coady, an economist at the University of Antigonish, held a conference on cooperation on the Islands.

1964 - Priestly ordination of Father Albert Chiasson of the Basin.

1990 – Father Addé Hubert (Eudiste) died. He was known as a great Acadian patriot who worked all his life as a professor in the French Universities of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. In 1955, he became the author and creator of the great historical pageant presented at the arena in Grindstone for the bicentennial of the dispersion of the Acadians.

June 29th

1936 – At the Municipal council meeting in Amherst, it was proposed and seconded that a remuneration must be accorded to people who were occupied in the distribution of direct aide from December 1935 to the present. That this remuneration must be $60.00 for each distributor because of the loss of time and the occasional expense. That he who verified the accounts, M.A. Painchaud receive the same remuneration.

June 28th

1883 – Because of excess ice in the Gulf, the first ship to arrive at the islands was on this date. The ice cause this year to be known as the “Year of Misery” for islanders. The cargo that was unloaded the next day was that of flour which helped to relieve the need to ration the necessities of living.

June 27th

1971 – The first Circle of Farmers celebrated their golden jubilee at the Cultural Center in Amherst. They had the honour of celebrating as the first association on the islands.

1985 - Inauguration of a multi-colored cross erected on the site overlooking the Oyster Bay in Grande-Entrée. The project was sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

June 26th

1983 – The Regional Swimming Pool held its official opening, with Islands swimmer, Rachelle Lapierre presenting two other talented swimmers who executed synchronized swimming to classical music in the pool.
