July 31st

1869 – Bishop J.W. Williams consecrated the Anglican church St-Augustine on Cape Gridley, Amherst Island.

1955 – It was the Acadian Bicentennial Celebration. They held a Pontifical Mass at the Saint-Pierre church in LaVernière. A large parade with floats followed the road in Grindstone. The 22nd Regiment sent a band to join the parade and there was historical pageant at the arena in Grindstone to celebrate the occasion.

July 30th

1936 – At the municipal council in Amherst the old age pensions were discussed.  Whereas the Act on old age pensions was enacted by the Legislative Assemblyof Quebec for the benefit of the elders of both sexes aged 70 and older and, according to this law, the municipality is responsible to care for the interested in helping to complete the formalities necessary for that purpose by means of its secretary-treasurer to act as required by law.

July 29th

1924 – At the municipal council in Amherst, it was proposed by Joseph Chiasson and supported by L.P. Gaudet and resolved that:  Whereas the Union of Municipalities of the Province of Quebec has already asked this council repeatedly, that it be a part of the association. Considering how successive Congresses of the Union have demonstrated that work is patriotic and advantage for the development of municipalities in the province: the Secretary-Treasurer be authorized to pay the $10 subscription and send a copy of this resolution to the secretary of the association. James Cormier, Pro-Mayor

July 28th

1793 - The first Catholic parish Islands, Notre-Dame des Monts (Our Lady of the Mountains) was founded on Amherst Island.

1793 – The first civil and religious act on the Magdalen Islands was the baptism of Françoise Anne Bourque, daughter of Joseph and Magdeleine Haché. Her mother and father were from the Notre-Dame des Ardilliers parish, on the island of Miquelon. The baptism ceremonies were held the missionary priest who had accompanied the Acadians to the Islands earlier that same year. Her cousin, Étienne Vigneau, assisted by Anne Bourque, her aunt became her god-parents. They signed the documents in a house that was used as a church. The baptismal records were signed by J.B. July 27th

1869 – The consecration of the first Saint Lukes church in Grindstone was held by the Bishop J.W. Williams.

1970 – The three-masted sail boat, Seashells arrived to the islands. She set sail by her captain, his wife and children and left Toronto on July 20 and did a complete visit of the Gulf.
