August 31st

1795 or (1765) - The oath of allegiance to the King of England was signed by 17 Canadian and 5 Acadians. The signatories were committed to Richard Gridley for hunting seals and sea cow.

1873 - Birth of Jean-François Solomon, a well-known physician on the Islands.

1961A bakery opened in Grindstone under the direction of Alphonse Forest.

1988 – Brion Island Ecological Reserve Became the 20th in Quebec.

August 30th

1954 - First general meeting of the Islands Central Power Cooperative.

1958 – The Brion, the newest ship to the fleet of the Groupe CTMA arrived to the islands with a load of general merchandise.

1969 – In the August 30th edition of the Madelinot, the islands newspaper, a note had been made for the 1968 year. The port of Grindstone had the second largest number of boats registered in it, second only to Montreal. Montreal had 948 boats and Grindstone had 744.

1993 - Start of the Islands Pro-Am championship windsurfing which ran until September 6.

August 29th

1915 – Senator Pascal Poirier, apostle of Acadian Rally visited the Magdalen Islands. He published his voyage to the islands in a booklet printed in 1917.

1990 – This was the first of the Canadian Pro-Am Competitions (windsurfing competition). They were held in the magnificent lagoon at the Havre-aux-Basques and at Etang-du-Nord and were open to professional and amateur windsurfers alike.

August 28th

1844 – Birth of Augustin Lebourdais, first telegraph operator of the islands and know as the father of modern day communications.

1938 - Foundation of the Caisse Populaire (Credit Union) in House Harbour.

1953 – The G.R. Bradford shipwrecked on the Sandy Hook Beach on Amherst Island while carrying a load of 215 tons of coal for the Magdalen Islands. It was a total loss.

1979 – A record was set in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence when three Grand Entry fishermen caught a moon fish near the Bird Rocks. The fish was a rare species and measured six feet, ten inches and weighed around 800 pounds.

2000 – Three waterspouts  (mini cyclones) were sighted around the islands.

August 27th

1969 - Inauguration of the third-largest power plant in Quebec, by the president of Hydro-Quebec, Roland Giroux.
