April 30th

1822 – The John & Charlotte shipwrecked off the Magdalen Islands.

1826 – The James Hunter shipwrecked off the Magdalen Islands.

1884The Athena shipwrecked off the Magdalen Islands. The Athena was a ship of 1,300 tonnage, registered at Drammen, Norway. She left Liverpool England and set sail for Quebec, when a violent storm threw her on the Magdalen Islands beach, east of Pointe-aux-Loups. Nineteen people lost their lives. There was only one survivor, the second officer. The captain, Jorges Lorentzen was buried at the Saint Luke’s cemetery in Grindstone, where his tombstone remains.

1934 – The Eleanord R. Hammond shipwrecked off the Magdalen Islands.

April 29th

1910 – The J.B. Young shipwrecked off the Magdalen Islands.

1915 – At an assembly of the municipal council in Amherst, it was directed by rules and regulations of the the council as follows:

1) In the future all municipal roads will be the burden of taxpayers and municipalities located within its boundaries will actually be improved and maintained at the expense of the corporation.

2) That the salaries paid for the work done on the roads be:

A) For one (1) man $1/day.

B) For one (1) man and a horse $1.50/day

C) For one (1) man and two horses $2.25/day.

April 28th

1849 – The ship Hubert Pare was wrecked off the Magdalen Islands.

1916 – At a special session of the municipal council of Amherst Island, it was ordered and ruled as follows: In view of preventing accidents by fire on La Grave, Pat Brophy was appointed special officer to prescribe the manner of placing the stoves, pipes, etc.., and regulate its use. Also at the session, they decided to prohibit, in the future, letting pigs roam free in any season, under the penalties imposed by section 440 of the Municipal Code.

April 27th

1812 – The Duke of Kent was shipwrecked off the Magdalen Islands.

1885 – During a session at the municipal council of Etang-du-Nord, it was resolved that Louis Harvie,  who was the lowest bidder for the installation, care and removal of buoys be approved by the board. It was also decided that the Council grant John Binet & Co., a licensed certificate to sell beverages and spirits for the sum of fifteen piastres (dollars).

April 26th

1930 - The declaration of bankruptcy by William F. Leslie was registered with the Superior Court of the District of Quebec.

1948 – Canonical launch of the new parish in Fatima. Father Alfred Gallant would later become the first parish priest.

1948 – The Samuel-B was lost at the wharf in Amherst islands. The winds pushed the ship hard against the wharf until was cut into two from the strong waves. The ship Havre-aux-Maisons was also sunk in this harbour, during the storm.

1967 – The construction of the new church in Grindstone, Saint Andre began.
